More funny things they say

Just have to record this stuff.  Makes me smile to no end.

Ruby and Owen look forward to our afternoon popsicles.  They are REALLY purple (we usually take our shirts off) - half beets, half berries, blended with a little coconut milk...voila!

Owen-

When learning to pee on the potty, he was encouraged to tell mom and dad when he "had the urge", as per Elmo in the video we got at the library about potty training.  So Owen was really compliant and would yell, "I have the urge!" many times throughout the day...even funnier...he didn't even have to go most of the time, just liked saying that.  We still struggle to get him to tell us when he has to go for real.

Trying out the violins at the art fair in slc.

"Do fish have ears?"...which I did not know the answer to but now I do.  It is very interesting and Owen can tell you all about it.  Ask him next time you talk to him.

Ruby-

We've really been into the "weed crowns" lately.  Ruby and Owen can usually identify which plants are "takeover flowers" aka "weeds", and which ones are "native"...which they know they are not supposed to pick, but struggle to resist still.

The most random topics become habitual conversations in our house.  Lately, we have been talking about carnivores, herbivores, what kind of teeth they have depending on what they eat, etc.  So, one day as part of this conversation, Ruby says, "Mommy, I am a candyvore."  Which she thought was really funny, and so did I.  Again, even funnier is that the closest these kids get to candy is an occasional lollipop at the doctor's office or hair dresser.  Just goes to show how quickly and deeply the sugar imprint goes.

Ruby and Owen LOVE to hear stories about when they were babies.  And even more interesting lately are stories about when they were "in my belly".  They also love pretending they are holding or caring for baby animals.  Lately they have reported having "a baby in their belly"....sometimes two!...and then today they told me they had baby a jaguar (Owen) and a baby fox (Ruby) in their belly.  Whoa.

We struggle with fighting quite a bit.  I guess it is to be expected to a point.  Ruby and Owen hardly spend a waking moment apart.  Sometimes it seems worse than others, and thank goodness there are moments like the one I caught them in the other day.  I walked around the corner outside to see them embracing...which I thought was them in a lock of biting or pinching, etc....except that then I heard Owen say to Ruby, "You are my best friend in the whole world."  Ruby repeated it back to him.  Started crying.  Of course, it also cracks me up that they don't even know what "the whole world" means...but they must have heard this phrase and knew enough to know what the phrase means.

We are driving home from a hike yesterday and they start telling me about all the things that "sleep" in winter- the flowers, the grass, etc.  Oh, and, "the farmers take a nap in winter too".  Where do they come up with this stuff?

We are the recent proud owners of a season pass to Jordanelle State Park. About 10 min from the house, and a nice change from the park.  Nice water for wading and swimming when it is hot enough, a spot to put the mini-raft (donated to us by our neighbors) in, and sandy beaches for sand castle and mote building.

Art Time
Cause sometimes paper just isn't the right canvas.  And...we have lots of these around.

A video of some painting time on the porch. :)

We redid some parts of the kid's rooms.  I especially like these clothesline type things we got to both display their work and decorate their room with.  This is Ruby's room, but they both have these.
